- 1. Problem
-
- The problem I had when I first got my amiga was a lack of time. Not a lack
- of time to use it, but when I did use it, it never had the correct date and
- time set in it. When I bought my first 1/2 meg upgrade board for my A500,
- then I was set, because along with that whole 1/2 meg came a battery backed
- up clock! But since I've upgraded to an Amiga 1200, I miss having the
- correct time, especially when writing letters, e-mail, etc. So I needed
- Real Time.
-
-
-
- 2. Solution
-
- Well here's the solution to all your problems. RealTime is a program
- similar to the Time preferences found on Workbench 2 and above. Some of you
- may have noticed that, unlike most of the prefs programs, the Time program
- does not save out a file when you click on Save, instead it attempts to
- write the time to a battery backed up clock. Well think how useful it would
- be if it saved the time to a preferences file, then you could put Time into
- the WBStartup drawer and set the correct time and date every time you boot.
- Well now you can, since RealTime's save button saves the time to a file you
- specify, then attempts to read it back from that file the next time it's
- run.
-
-
-
- 3. Usage
-
- RealTime can be run from the CLI or from Workbench, from either accepts two
- optional arguments...
-
- RealTime FROM,PUBSCREEN/K
-
- ToolTypes: PUBSCREEN
- DATEFILE
-
- The first argument, FROM or DATEFILE, is the name of the file you wish to
- store the date in, if this is ommited then RealTime will use the default
- file S:Date. The second argument PUBSCREEN tells RealTime the name of the
- Public Screen you wish it to open on, if this argument is ommited then it
- will open on the Workbench screen.
-
- Once the program is run. It opens a window with four slider gadgets, these
- control (from top to bottom) the Hours, the Minutes, the Months and the
- Days. There is also a display which shows the date selected, and a string
- gadget to change the year. Along the bottom are three buttons, Save, Use
- and Cancel. Use simply sets the current time/date as the time selected,
- Save sets the time and saves the time to the file, and cancel quits the
- program with no changes, as does the close gadget. If the right mouse
- button is pressed then an about window appears.

- 4. Other BD Releases
-
- Currently there are only a few of many programs fully written and released,
- here they are...
-
- 256Colour 1.0 - Corrects the palette on 16+ colour
- Workbench screens on an AGA amiga.
-
- AltNTab 1.0 - Allows you to switch between windows
- using a hotkey, just like Windows users
-
- ExtraScreen 1.2 - Opens a customizable Public Screen for
- any programs that require it. The
- screen is then shut down when no
- windows are open on it.
-
- StartE 1.0 - Allows you to have up to 5 extra
- startup-sequences available by holding
- down the right mouse button during
- booting.
-
- To be released...
-
- Chord 1.0 - A guitar chord database which shows how
- to play certain chords.
-
- PhoneDial 1.0 - Use you modem to dial phone numbers
- faster than you could, then drop the
- carrier for you to continue the call.
-
- ExtraScreen 2.0 - A surprising update.
-
- Plus many more that may or may not get finished :)
-

- 5. Author Info
-
- Hi, I'm the author :) Here's the bit where I get to bore you with lots of
- useless info about me. I'm 17, and I'm nearly finished a GNVQ IT course at
- Newcastle college. I write my programs in assembler on a Vanilla Amiga
- 1200. And if any big software companies out there wanna employ me then get
- in touch :) Anyway, here's the address for bug reports, letters of thanks,
- suicide requests, job offers and the likes...

- 6. RealTime
-
- RealTime is only a small program, so it would be pointless classing it as
- Shareware and demanding huge sums of money from people :) So I decided to
- make it PostcardWare, so if you use this program, and it comes in very handy
- then send me a postcard letting me know.
-
- This program was fairly bug ridden from version 1.0, but through plenty of
- testing now appears to be bug free. It made from 1.0 through to 1.2 just
- with bug fixes, and thanks to Gordon Brown, Phil Brown and me for testing
- it.
-
- Future:-
-
- I don't think there's much call for future versions, what else can I add?
- One thing I do intend to impelment in 1.3 is a standard date form. At the
- moment it stores the date in a non-ASCII format, version 1.3 will output the
- date as an ASCII file similar to the output from C:Date. Also a Save As
- option to specify the output file, and an update option, to simply update
- the current time/date to the file without the GUI. These three will be
- fitted into 1.3, and hopefully we won't need a 1.4 bug fix :)
